Megan Cosby’s artwork is a collection of the female form. Cosby became interested in art as a result of fashion design. While studying the figure painting over took her. Cosby explains, “Painting became more of a means for me to give a core and personality to the figures wearing the clothes. They became more then just a manikin.” Her goal is to retain the features of the model while adding her own personality and story to the figure. Cosby clarifies, “I find objects, words or experiences that inspire me at the time and create an atmosphere for my models. The challenge is to always create an honest atmosphere. It has to be part of me because I tell my story through the people that I paint. I think that it’s important to try to keep my work consistent while challenging my self to try new techniques. A popular theme in most of my paintings is contradiction. I love to paint subjects that make people question the intention of the painting.”
Megan’s work has been featured in dozens of Jacksonville shows. Her work is currently displayed at Stellars Gallery, Bogda Gallery,Flux Gallery The Cork and Keg, and Heirlooms Bistro.
Megan studied art and advertising at the University of North Florida. She interned at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. There, she designed part of a fundraising campaign the museum sent to their patrons. She currently works as an advertising coordinator and assistant director at Stellars Gallery in Julington Creek, Florida. She also curates for Jacksonville’s monthly Art Walk.
